Company History
Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) began as an idea of the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce to expand educational opportunities with the addition of a two-year college on Oklahoma City’s south side. The college opened in the fall of 1972 as South Oklahoma City Junior College, with one campus building and an enrollment of 1,049 students. In 1983, the name of the College changed to Oklahoma City Community College to better reflect the broad community we serve. Today, OCCC is the state’s fifth largest college with an average enrollment of 17,000 credit-seeking students (plus scores of non-credit seeking students), an expansive campus, and more than 80 different degree or professional certification programs. OCCC's diverse student population is representative of the diversity of the community. Student enrollment is comprised of 46.9% White, 18.7% Hispanic students, 9% African American, 5.4% Asian, 4.1% Native American/Alaskan Native, 9% two or more races, and 6.9 % other or not reported. OCCC draws students from five central Oklahoma counties, including Cleveland, Canadian, Grady, McClain, and Oklahoma counties.
